Getting Around Walnut Creek

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)

Walnut Creek is home to two BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) stations: the Walnut Creek BARTand Pleasant Hill BART stations. BART provides regional transportation to and from Walnut Creek to much of the Bay Area, including Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, and the two major airports, SFO and Oakland International. Free Trolley

The popular and free Walnut Creek Trolley operates between downtown Walnut Creek and the Walnut Creek BART station. The route shuttles visitors between the BART station and Broadway Plaza, stopping every other block at locations along Locust Street, Broadway Plaza, and Main Street. The County Connection also runs buses downtown and outlying areas of Walnut Creek and neighboring communities.

Hiking Trails

The multi-use, whole-access Iron Horse Trail runs through Walnut Creek north / south, following the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way established in 1891 and abandoned in 1977. The Contra Costa Canal Trail runs through Walnut Creek east / west, meandering along the Contra Costa Canal. These paved trails, in addition to the many Walnut Creek street bike lanes, provide enjoyable walking and riding experiences, as well as transportation opportunities.
